Upcoming Workshops with Articulate Ink

At long last, and with great jubilation, Articulate Ink will be opening registration Monday May 14^th, 2012 for in depth printmaking workshops!  Our spring/summer season will focus on areas of silkscreen and lino-block printing.

Whether you’re returning to a long-lost medium, or starting with nothing but a desire to try something new - our workshops are right up your alley! Classes will be structured to accommodate students from all levels of experience, with additional insight on adapted techniques for at – home printing.

Class numbers will be limited to ensure our participants enjoy plenty of time and space in the studio, while benefiting from the communal environment of the shop. Detailed descriptions of rates, class times etc. will be released when registration opens so keep one eye glued to our website/twitter/facebook!

We've given our website a new look, a lot of content and made a bit of studio tour that showcases some of the new additions and arrangments that have come our way.

Remember that party we had last fall to Save the Press? After some serious time, energy, and no small amount of grease (elbow or otherwise) we have movement! Motorized movement to be exact!

We hope to begin printing soon, but for now here's a sneek peek at the resurrected press in all it's glory....

Articulate Ink is currently accepting applications for two available spaces in their studio rental program. Conveniently located at 1843 Hamilton Street, our members enjoy 24 hour access to Articulate Ink’s printmaking equipment, a desk space, large paper drawers and some storage. The studio offers an etching press, screenprinting facilities (paper and textile), several different types of letterpresses and type, as well as all the secondary equipment needed to produce prints with the aforementioned machinery (darkroom, exposure unit, large format inkjet printer, computer access with Adobe Photoshop suite). Note: Articulate Ink will provide training for all incoming members; however preference is given to those with previous printmaking experience.

Members pay a monthly rental fee of $110, with a refundable damage deposit of the same amount. A $40 consumables fee is collected three times per year which covers the cost of the provided inks, (etching, letterpress, screenprint), as well as specialty cleaning solutions, darkroom supplies, and other various studio materials.

Applicants are asked to submit a current CV and 100-250 word letter of interest to ink.articulate@gmail.com by April 20th, 2012. We look forward to hearing from you!

Articulate Ink was recently invited to be the featured artist of the month for the Saskatchewan Network for Art Collecting. Head on over to the site where you will find an interview as well as a gallery of our prints for sale through SK NAC.

A huge thank you to Robin Schlaht for inviting us and making all the arrangements to reproduce our work so beautifully online, as well as Jess Boyachek who conducted and transcribed the interview. We had a great time chatting with them in the gallery and we are honoured to be featured along side some of Saskatchewan's most talented artists.

HEY GUESS WHAT?!

The Regina Civic Arts Fund has chosen to grant Articulate Ink the cash to hold four, month long workshops in the Spring/Summer of 2012!

(insert wild applause here)

We are SO honoured and excited to have this opportunity, and we thank the Civic Arts Fund for believing in our cause, a huge thank you to them! The money we received will allow us to offer our classes at an extremely affordable rate, while still managing to pay the instructors wages for their time. We will release more details regarding the topics of the classes in the first few months of the new year, we just wanted to share the good news with everyone and  start spreading the word - and the word is workshops!

 GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

Articulate Ink has an upcoming exhibition curated by Wendy Peart at the Sherwood Village branch of the Dunlop Art Gallery, Sherwood Villiage Branch. Each of us is hard at work producing brand-spanking-new prints to display this January - hot off the presses as they say.

The reception and show opening will take place on the 14th of January, starting at 1pm. Then on the 21st of the same month we will be hosting a free letterpress printing session - also in the gallery! Each visitor will receive a freshly squeezed print from the loins of our table-top letterpress! If you can't make it on either of these dates the show will be up until March 15th, so be sure to come check out the neweset work by yours truely!

We are in the process of hand-printing the invites for the exhibition, (pictured above) so keep your eyes peeled for these one-of-a-kind items which will be distributed throughout the city over the next month or so.
